New year, New Lynda

4 days after the beginning of 2011, I flew back to the UK to start a new year with so many new possibilities. After settling back into my routine here, I decided that my actions should reflect my new attitude for the year. I got a much needed hair cut, I joined a drama society, I started going back to the gym and to church.

I usually got my hair cut in Peter Marks back home, but this time I decided to get my haircut in Toni and Guy over here. The guy who cut my hair said that he was styling it based on my 'personality' and that he "really enjoyed" cutting my hair... right!

One of my room mates, Kareena, went back to Australia for 6 weeks, so as a house we went out to dinner at a fancy pants restaurant in town. We had a 3 course meal, with wine and plenty of laughs. We had two vouchers which got us a free bottle of wine and two free main meals.

After doing Speech and Drama studies for 13 years back home and taking my Associate teaching exam, I thought it would be good to keep up the art over here. I emailed the local drama society who promptly returned my call asking me to join them at rehearsals to see how they work. I dropped down after work and sat in the front row. There was 4 of us watching the show and afterwards I got to meet the gang. Most people were friendly and they asked my opinion about the technical aspects, which was very humbling. I went back for 1 more rehearsal, I helped out on opening night and the final night. I will be joining them for read throughs for their next play, next week, where I will hopefully find a character that I want to audition for.

Last week, we had a two day staff retreat. It was held in a conference centre 10 minutes outside of town. It was so great to get away from the office and spend time with my coworkers. We had seminars/talks, shared meals, did a table quiz (facilitated by c'est moi), went to the pub and got to know each other more.

It was then time to go to Becki's going away... My friend Becki decided to move back to Australia for good. Even though it is sad to be losing such a good friend, I am excited to see what is in store for her. We have shared many moments, laughs, cinema trips and piercing experiences. I am going to miss her so much but know that this is right thing for her to do. Becki held a Horror themed going away bash. Eventually I decided to go as 'Dead Becki', even including her tattoos in my costume (photos on facebook, not here.. ha)

Beck is so cool that she can be both players at the same time

What will happen next? Blind Bambi!
