Random mid week post

I know that I'm taking a drastic steer away from my usual self exhibitionist blog updates, but sometimes it's nice to think about other things than myself (we all have a selfish nature).

I came across this extract from Captain Corelli's Mandolin and needed to post it. I say "came across", very lightly as I actually actively sought to find this exact piece. It was learnt and recited by Janet from my drama class last year. Every week we recited our pieces for the class so we eventually were able to recite the other's pieces as well as our own. Janet had chosen such beautiful pieces which flowed and complemented each other, but this one stayed with me so I wanted to share it.

This is an extract from Ch.47 of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, as said by Dr. Iannis:

"Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like a volcanoe and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second of every minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don't blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being "in love", which any fool can do. Love itself is what is leftover when being in love had burned away, and it is both an art and an unfortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two"
