iPhone 4 extravaganza

On Wednesday, I drove to the NEC in Birmingham to go to the EventUK event. A conference for event mangers. The hall was set up with stands and seminar areas all centred around Event management. The stands were the usual merchandising and corporate services. I did however run into a stand called 'Killarney hotels'. I asked the stand rep if they were the Killarney court hotels in Ireland. Of course they were, and the rep could not be more Irish if he tried. It was so great to run into a fellow Irishman. I shared about how I recently moved here, which gave him hope for his daughter who has just graduated from Marketing. After going to a few seminars and having lunch, I went to a seminar by retired model Caprice. She talked about why she gave up the catwalk and how hard it was to start her own business. After getting as much brochures, business cards and free stuff that I could carry, I left with my mind bursting with ideas for our 2011 events.

On Saturday I got up early to head into town and apply for my iPhone 4 (finally). I left the house and arranged to meet Becki for some lunch. I went into Boots to print off some photos for my room, which took up enough time that we could head straight to lunch after.

Random photos from the last few years

We decided to work from one end of the town back up towards Carphone warehouse and finish off our journey with me applying for the iPhone4. On the way, we popped into the Exotic pet shop (Yes, our small town has a whole shop dedicated to exotic pets). We wandered around the "free zoo", 'Ouing' and 'Ahing' at all the reptiles and getting creeped out by all the 'live food'.

"I like Turtles!"

We were thrown as we went on our journey, by spotting an M+S employee pushing a Sainsburys trolley. Our curiosity peaked, as we found we were walking in the same direction as this rare phenomenon. Alas, we never found out why this melding of two major supermarkets occurred, but we were glad it did. The next stop was 'Hook and Eye', our local piercing and tattoo place. I needed to pick up a new earring, but when we walked in Becki said "Lynda wants a new piercings". I turned to Becki quite shocked and then turned back and said "Yes, I'm thinking about something on my right ear" and it all went from there.

It's the conch, not the orbital or bar

We finally made it to Carphone warehouse, walked straight up to the assistant to find that they didn't have any iPhone 4's in stock... So I ordered it online. That seems to be the way things are going nowadays.

The highlight of my weekend was on Sunday when me and Liz were in Starbucks. We were having coffee and I was starving so decided to be naughty and have a sandwich. To my utter surprise and joy, Liz spotted that they now do Gluten Free Sandwiches!! To some people, this may seem like an insignificant highlight, but for someone who hasn't had a store bought sandwich in nearly 3 years, this was epic!

I'm sure I will have a lot to talk about next week as I am going to Glasgow on Friday for 2 days. I was asked at the last minute to go up and host a stand with two of my coworkers. I'm really looking forward to it as, not only do I really like Scotland, it's another city that I haven't been to yet and I get to meet a lot of new people.
